I make a conscious effort to avoid the studio, preferring to capture my subjects in their natural environment. Without the comfort of a controllable space I am left  to grapple with the problem of how to exclude unnecessary distractions. In order to do this I have to make a real effort to concentrate the viewer's attention; restricting their options, distilling and concentrating the key components of the image, whilst digging below the surface and revealing the true essence of the scene.

Scratching the surface

Inspiration - after working in an Arts College for over 10 years the desire to create art became unbearable.

Perspiration - there is a difficulty in placating the urge to make pictures with the reality of spending huge chunks of time working.

Dedication - fulfilling my promise to make pictures for at least 8 hours a week has motivated me to move to a digital platform to display my art.
